At a glance
What is KNX technology?
KNX is a worldwide bus standard for building automation. It controls lighting, shading, heating and energy monitoring across manufacturers over a shared line.
Who does KNX suit?
Above all new builds and full renovations, because the bus cabling is installed there without extra effort and generates hardly any follow-up costs over decades.
What does a KNX system cost?
More to purchase than a wireless system, but stable and a future-proof investment thanks to its wired design. We put together a firm quote after reviewing your project.
Who plans and programmes the system?
We handle planning, cabling and programming with the KNX standard software ETS, including visualisation and a handover briefing.
Where do you operate?
In Herford and the surrounding region, including Hiddenhausen, Enger, Bünde, Löhne, Kirchlengern, Vlotho, Bad Salzuflen, Spenge, Rödinghausen, Detmold and Lübbecke. Other towns on request.

  • Lighting control Switching, dimming and fixed lighting scenes for individual rooms or the whole house.
  • Shading Shutters, blinds and awnings controlled by timer, sun or wind sensor.
  • Heating & climate Room-by-room temperature control linked to a heat pump or your existing heating circuits.
  • Energy monitoring Keep an eye on consumption and generation, for example alongside photovoltaics.
  • Presence control Automated routines for comfort and an occupied-looking home while you're away.
  • Visualisation Operation via switch, tablet or app, exactly as you prefer.

How we proceed

From idea to programmed system.

Step 1

Needs assessment

We discuss which rooms and functions should be automated and what matters most to you.

Step 2

Bus planning

We define the line structure, actuators and sensors and put together a matching concept.

Step 3

Installation & programming

We install the bus line, fit the components and programme the system with ETS.

Step 4

Briefing & handover

We explain the controls and hand over a documented, ready-to-use system.

KNX or wireless: what suits your project?

KNX connects all components over a fixed bus line. That makes the system immune to radio interference and very long-lasting, since no batteries ever need replacing. In a new build or a full renovation with open walls, the cabling can be installed alongside everything else at no extra effort. You can find out more about the construction side on our Electrical Installation page.

Wireless solutions score where no new cabling should be pulled in retrospect. They're quicker to fit but depend on batteries and a stable radio connection. If retrofitting without any chasing of walls is your priority, take a look at our page on Smart Home via wireless.

For pure lighting without full building automation, a modern LED Technology solution with dimming is often enough. We advise you, manufacturer-neutral, on which system suits your building and budget. KNX and wireless can also be combined where needed.

A KNX system typically costs more to purchase than a comparable wireless system. We only put together a binding quote after inspecting your project.

Frequently asked questions

What customers often ask about KNX.

What is KNX?

KNX is a worldwide, manufacturer-independent bus standard for building automation. Switches, sensors and actuators from different manufacturers communicate with each other over a shared bus line, controlling lighting, shading, heating and more.

KNX or wireless smart home?

KNX is wired, which makes it very stable and long-lasting, ideal for new builds and full renovations where cabling is being installed anyway. Wireless systems are easier to retrofit but depend on batteries and a stable radio connection. We advise you on what suits your project.

Can KNX be retrofitted into an older building?

In principle yes, but bus cabling has to be installed, which is more involved in an occupied building than in a new build. If a full renovation with open walls is already planned, KNX is usually straightforward to implement. We assess your specific case on site.

What does a KNX system cost roughly?

Due to the components and programming involved, a KNX system costs more than a pure wireless system. The extra cost usually pays off through longevity and investment security. We put together a firm quote after reviewing your project.

Is KNX tied to one manufacturer?

No. KNX is an open, manufacturer-independent standard that numerous manufacturers such as Gira, Busch-Jaeger, ABB, Berker, Merten, Siemens and Schneider Electric have adopted. You are not tied to a single supplier.
